Just this week, the state of New York passed some of the most radical abortion laws in the world by declaring
Late term abortion (which includes up to the birth of the baby) has been legalized, with the only limitation or guideline requiring a “health concern” for the mother. Unfortunately, past history has already shown us that “health concern” can be stretched to mean pretty much anything. In addition to broadening the scope of abortion, New York also removed abortion from the criminal code, meaning that under no circumstance, including an abusive spouse killing the baby through domestic abuse, can criminal charges be brought against a person for the killing of the unborn. Horrifyingly, the abortion laws of the United States have now become some of the most radical i
The Bible leaves no room for doubt, Abortion is murder. God not only cares for and loves the unborn, but He has
“For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.”
– Psalm 139:13-16
So how do we respond to our culture’s continued progression and celebration of abortion?
If anything is going to be done to stop abortion around the world it will only be accomplished by the mighty hand of God. Our society is not one good argument away from changing their mind on abortion. We must seek God as Abraham did on behalf of Sodom in Genesis 18 and as God tells his people to in 2 Chronicles 7:14, and plead with God to change the hearts of people. We should also pray for those affected by this decision, including mothers who will spend the rest of their lives dealing with guilt and regret over their decisions. The church must be ready to comfort them and point them to the restoring love and healing that is found only in Christ.
The Gospel is the only thing that can bring true transformation to the hearts and lives of people and cause them to live their lives in obedience to biblical ethics.”
Preach the Gospel
The only person who can change the heart of the depraved sinner is Jesus. For far too long, Christians have bought into the idea that if we scream loud enough, or post enough pictures on Facebook, we can get people who don’t believe in God to live their lives under His authority. The Gospel is the only thing that can bring true transformation to the hearts and lives of people and cause them to live their lives in obedience to biblical ethics
Be Responsibly Active
In the United States of America, we have been blessed with the ability to influence the direction and laws of our nation. The fundamental way we can do this is by voting. As Christians, we should be faithfully voting in every election and strongly committed to voting for pro-life candidates. If we wouldn’t accept the logic of a Christian voting for a candidate who supported genocide just because he/she had a good jobs plan, then we shouldn’t settle for voting for pro-abortion candidates just because some of their policies are good. As Christians, we should clearly send the message through the power of our votes that if a politician will not seek to end abortion in America, then we will find someone else to represent us regardless of the party to which they belong. In addition, Christians should also pray about seeking to run for political office. We cannot engage the culture on key issues if we are not included in the debate.
Rest in the Holiness of God
Hearing the news of late-term abortions being celebrated brings great angst, frustration, and worry to our souls. But never forget, our God has not left the throne. He hasn’t surrendered His Sovereignty or Omnipotence. He still reigns, and He is Holy and Just. Those who cheer the killing of the innocent, who perform the murders and who profit off of them will someday face the unrelenting wrath of God unless they repent and turn to the mercy and love of Christ to forgive them.
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”Romans 12:19
And on that day, the only hope will be to have been washed by the blood of Christ. Our God promises to right every wrong. This upside-down world will be turned right side up the moment our Savior returns. And on that day, it will be the people of God who cheer, not for some law that allows them to indulge in the depths of their depravity, but we will cheer for our Holy and Just King who brings true love, peace and grace.
